Learn more about the breed
History
The ancestors of the English Bulldog originated around the 13th century, to partake in a grizzly attempt at a ’sport’ called bullbaiting - where a pack of dogs were pitted against a wild bull. These dogs were big, tough, and supposedly impervious to pain as they would keep getting hit but never stop attacking.
By the time all blood sports containing animals were banned in the mid-1800s the bulldog fell out of a job and was slowly fading out from existence.
But admirers and aficionados alike came together to breed their ancestors into the bulldog we know today - with a smaller, more affable frame and a compassionate, loving personality.
Personality
English Bulldogs are some of the most lovable dogs around, with a flowery disposition towards those they love yet a sense of responsibility, they won’t let any harm come to you.
They should be socialized early to avoid any overprotective behavior, and are generally really good around children and other dogs. Known for their stubborn & lazy attitude, the Bulldog is famous for being compared to the wartime Prime Minister of the UK - Winston Churchill.
Make sure that you exercise your Bulldog and avoid leaving any food unattended around them, as they are notorious for gaining the pounds quickly as well as having little control over their appetite and regularly overeating if given the chance.
Care
Bulldogs might look tough and untouchable, but are surprisingly delicate dogs. They overheat very quickly & don’t fare well in cold weather either - requiring to be in a cool, air conditioned room in most Indian cities.
Other than having the temperature of their surroundings regulated, they need their food to be watched closely as well as they are quite susceptible to obesity. To supplement this, they suffer from tons of respiratory issues due to their pinched airway - and if they gain weight this issue is multiplied.
Bulldog's are seasonal shedders but don’t require to be brushed more than once every few days, but you can bet that they will leave a trail of drool everywhere they go.

Why AWBI & KCI?
Importance of KCI
Also known as the Kennel Club of India, KCI is a professional body that maintains strict standards across various breeds of dogs across India. All KCI registered dogs come with a KCI registration certificate from the breeder, ensuring their pedigree. KCI representative may also visit the breeder at the time of whelping to ensure maintenance of breed standards.
As the only reputed governing body of dog breed standards, we always recommend getting a dog that has been registered through this organization in order to have clarity regarding their origin.
This does, however not ensure the conditions the pup was reared in or in what manner their parents might have been treated. This concern is what brings us to our next point: AWBI Certification
Significance of AWBI
The Animal Welfare Board of India requires that any individual selling any living dog must be registered with the animal welfare state board of their jurisdiction. In not doing so, both the buyer and seller are committing a crime.
Since this amendment was passed, it became illegal to buy / sell dogs without the breeder being the valid, original holder of an AWBI license. Apart from this judicial responsibility, AWBI also has strict guidelines regarding the conditions that the dogs must be kept in and the treatment provided to them. These guidelines make sure breeders follow responsible breeding practices Due to these reasons, we strictly work only with AWBI registered breeders, and implore you to do the same.
How can you make a difference?
Ensure that you only work with AWBI registered breeders, and if you're looking for a purebred dog try to find one that is KCI registered. By forcing the breeders to obtain a license, we may finally put an end to puppy mills and unethical breeding practices.
