Learn more about the breed
History
An ancient Chinese breed ( such as the Shih Tzu or Pekingese ) dating back to the Han dynasty, the Pug has been around for centuries. At one point the Pug was Holland’s mascot after saving the life of William the Orange ( Prince of Holland ) by alerting him of an oncoming Spanish attack.
Queen Victoria was also known to be a big admirer of these dogs, having bred many of them and preferring the apricot-fawn variety. Black Pugs were also popularized sometime during the late 19th Century.
One of the most popular dogs in the world, the Pug was definitively the most popular dog in India for a number of years in the mid 2000s thanks to a clever advertising campaign on behalf of Hutch, prior to their merger with Vodafone India.
Personality
Pugs are ideal companions, with an even and calm temperament neither will they hide away in fear nor show aggression without cause. Early socialization is imperative to build this temperament up, or they might go either way upon contact with new humans & dogs.
They are great with children & elders, but should be kept away from children under the age of 8 until fully grown, to avoid any injuries. A daily 30-min walk should suffice to keep them from gaining unneeded weight, as they are generally fairly lazy themselves.
If you are looking for a couch potato to relax with you and avoid extra stress, this is the dog for you.
Care
With a smooth, short coat you won’t worry about grooming your dog on a daily basis - but be aware that the Pug is not a light shedder. With hairball throughout the year, keep a few extra lint rollers to save yourself from the hair-tornado.
Very good with other people and animals, you will not have to worry about them attacking or being attacked by others, as long as they are well socialized from a young age.
While grooming your dog, it is necessary to ensure that you get the grease out from their skin folds as this area could get infected if not given enough care.

Why AWBI & KCI?
Importance of KCI
Also known as the Kennel Club of India, KCI is a professional body that maintains strict standards across various breeds of dogs across India. All KCI registered dogs come with a KCI registration certificate from the breeder, ensuring their pedigree. KCI representative may also visit the breeder at the time of whelping to ensure maintenance of breed standards.
As the only reputed governing body of dog breed standards, we always recommend getting a dog that has been registered through this organization in order to have clarity regarding their origin.
This does, however not ensure the conditions the pup was reared in or in what manner their parents might have been treated. This concern is what brings us to our next point: AWBI Certification
Significance of AWBI
The Animal Welfare Board of India requires that any individual selling any living dog must be registered with the animal welfare state board of their jurisdiction. In not doing so, both the buyer and seller are committing a crime.
Since this amendment was passed, it became illegal to buy / sell dogs without the breeder being the valid, original holder of an AWBI license. Apart from this judicial responsibility, AWBI also has strict guidelines regarding the conditions that the dogs must be kept in and the treatment provided to them. These guidelines make sure breeders follow responsible breeding practices Due to these reasons, we strictly work only with AWBI registered breeders, and implore you to do the same.
How can you make a difference?
Ensure that you only work with AWBI registered breeders, and if you're looking for a purebred dog try to find one that is KCI registered. By forcing the breeders to obtain a license, we may finally put an end to puppy mills and unethical breeding practices.
