Learn more about the breed

History

Rottweilers descend from the Molossus, a mastiff-type dog. Their ancestors marched to Germany with the Romans, driving the cattle that sustained them as they conquered the known world. In the region of Rottweil, these dogs met and mixed with the native dogs in a natural crossing, resulting in the earliest iterations of the Rottweilers we know and love today.

As their work as cattle dogs became obsolete, their purpose evolved to being police dogs, guard dogs, and have even been trained for search-and-rescue missions. Their work continues on today, but they make for amazing family pets at the same time.

Personality

A well-bred and properly raised Rottie will be calm and confident, courageous and assertive but not unduly aggressive, nor dominating. It is important to let these dogs know who the leader of the pack is. The aloof demeanor these world-class guardians present to outsiders belies the playfulness, and downright silliness, that endear Rotties to their loved ones.

Extremely protective of those they love, strangers would be wary of getting too close and for good reason. But through early training and socialization you may harness a Rottie's territorial instincts in a positive way. Other than that, if you are looking for a buddy with boatloads of energy who can play with you all day and guard you while you sleep - look no further.

Care

With a short, smooth coat you don't have to worry about brushing them too often. Mild to moderate shedding is to be expected, as well as a fair amount of drool.

You must be able to provide your Rottweiler with leadership he can trust and respect without resorting to anger or physical force. Otherwise, he'll take the role of top dog for himself. With a dog as powerful and intelligent as the Rottweiler, this is a recipe for disaster.

Despite what you might have heard, Rottweilers are not temperamentally unsound or inherently vicious. Well-bred, well-socialized Rotties are playful, gentle, and loving to their families. They are easy to train if treated with respect and make great companions. This breed is only suitable for those who are willing to devote a chunk of their daily schedule to training and socializing their pet.

Why AWBI & KCI?

Importance of KCI

Also known as the Kennel Club of India, KCI is a professional body that maintains strict standards across various breeds of dogs across India. All KCI registered dogs come with a KCI registration certificate from the breeder, ensuring their pedigree. KCI representative may also visit the breeder at the time of whelping to ensure maintenance of breed standards.
As the only reputed governing body of dog breed standards, we always recommend getting a dog that has been registered through this organization in order to have clarity regarding their origin.

This does, however not ensure the conditions the pup was reared in or in what manner their parents might have been treated. This concern is what brings us to our next point: AWBI Certification

Significance of AWBI

The Animal Welfare Board of India requires that any individual selling any living dog must be registered with the animal welfare state board of their jurisdiction. In not doing so, both the buyer and seller are committing a crime.

Since this amendment was passed, it became illegal to buy / sell dogs without the breeder being the valid, original holder of an AWBI license. Apart from this judicial responsibility, AWBI also has strict guidelines regarding the conditions that the dogs must be kept in and the treatment provided to them. These guidelines make sure breeders follow responsible breeding practices  Due to these reasons, we strictly work only with AWBI registered breeders, and implore you to do the same.

How can you make a difference?

Ensure that you only work with AWBI registered breeders, and if you're looking for a purebred dog try to find one that is KCI registered. By forcing the breeders to obtain a license, we may finally put an end to puppy mills and unethical breeding practices.
